March through May of 2020 because of COVID we were hunkered down in an RV park right on the Atlantic Ocean in Key Largo FL. Three months was the longest we'd stayed anywhere since our launch in October 21018. I would not have this shot and a cover on a book if not for the shutdown. May 7 was the last super moon of 2020, which is its closest approach to Earth in orbit making the moon appear bigger and brighter.
I was prepared for it's rise with my tripod and telephoto lens. Waiting with others from the park for the moon to shoot up over the horizon. About a mile offshore from our park is an island called Rodriguez Key and is a favorite site for sailboats to lay at anchor for extended periods. The moon seemed to rise right behind the boats and you can see their mast lights twinkling on the horizon.
After post processing the photo I posted it to Lift Your Eyes Photography Facebook page and , a friend from the park, shared it on his page. Nick is an author of diving adventure books and a friend of author Wayne Stinnett who was putting the finishing touches on his 20th book Rising Moon. When Wayne saw my photo that Nick had shared on Facebook he wanted it for his cover! We exchanged email messages and he purchased the commercial rights for his cover and book marketing! I have since read many of Wayne and Nicks books available on Amazon. In May of 2021 I was near Wayne’s hometown of Bluffton SC and contacted him about stopping by his office for a brief visit to which he cordially agreed. Tami and I had a great time meeting Wayne and getting to know him. If you like adventure, sea life, murder mystery and or military operations you’ll love his books!
